The Besancon Historical Society closed in 2023. It was a not-for-profit organization incorporated in 1995 to interpret and pass on the heritage and culture of those who settled and built up the eastern Allen County, Indiana area. The specific purposes of the society included:
- promoting historical and genealogical research
- conserving historic sites and structures
- collecting and preserving artifacts and resource materials in its archives
- stimulating interest in the history and genealogy of the area
