  • 13 Jan 1894 John Pressler has filed a complaint for divorce from his wife, Amelia Pressler. In July, 1890, Mrs. Pressler instituted divorce proceedings but a compromise was effected out of court. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 18 Jan 1894 John Keller has brought suit in the circuit court for a divorce from his wife, Jane Keller. The couple were married in 1880. The plaintiff declares that having provided a home for his wife in this city, she refuses to come and live with him. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 18 Jan 1894 Louisa Green filed suit yesterday for divorce from Frank Green and before the ink was dry the judge granted the plaintiff a divorce. Green abandoned his wife and children three years ago and has since neglected to support them. Mrs. Green said her husband spent his money for liquor. (Fort Wayne News)
  • 19 Jan 1894 Lottie Tegtmeyer has brought suit for a divorce against her husband, William. Abandonment, failure to provide and cruelty are charged. Four children were born to the couple and the plaintiff asks for custody and alimony. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 11 Feb 1894 In the superior court yesterday Fannie E. L. Cooper filed a suit for divorce against her husband, Winfield S. Cooper, and the case was at once taken up and in less than an hour the decree of separation was granted. The complaint alleged cruelty, abandonment and failure to provide.   • 16 Feb 1894 In the divorce suit of John Pressler against Amelia Pressler a decree was awarded the defendant on her cross-complaint and she was also given the custody of the children. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 18 Feb 1894 In the superior court, Betsy Nieman has commenced action for divorce from Benjamin Nieman on the grounds of cruelty, abandonment, etc. She asks custody of the children as well as $1000 alimony. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 4 Mar 1894 In the circuit court yesterday, Sophia Baker filed a complaint against John S. Baker, asking for a divorce and also an injunction restraining him from disposing of property until the settlement of the suit. The couple were married in Lafayette Township, October 20, 1883, and on February 27 last, the defendant deserted her. She declares he called her vile, vulgar and brutal epithets and threatened to knock her ____ ____ head off. The court granted the restraining order. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 15 Mar 1894 Yesterday in circuit court the Siebert divorce case was heard. The defendant, William O. Siebert, is an ex-inmate of Michigan City prison and now keeps a saloon in Nebraska. His wife, Dororthe charges drunkenness and cruelty and wants to pursue her way independently of the alleged bibulous William. (Fort Wayne News)

  • 23 Mar 1894 Estella Lenfesty asks for a divorce from Edward Lenfesty. Judge Colerick is attorney for the plaintiff and kept the papers from the eyes of reporters. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 30 Mar 1894 Suit has been entered in the circuit court by Jacob Certia against Catherine Certia for divorce. The complaint tells a harrowing tale how the poor man had been tyrannized over and maltreated. It declares that the defendant called the plaintiff a liar and other names that would not look well in print; that she struck him with a club and broke his nose and dislocated the bones of his hand. The last straw that broke the camel's back was when she pulled out a handful of the plaintiffs whiskers. The loss of the hirsute adornment could not be reconciled and the proceedings for separation followed. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 5 Apr 1894 In the superior court, Viva L. Hathaway has brought suit for a divorce from her husband, James, on the ground of abandonment. Alva Sanders is made a party to the suit in that he rents a farm belonging to the defendant and the plaintiff desires a restraining order preventing him from paying rents to the defendant.   • 14 Apr 1894 Minnie Miller has brought suit for divorce against Edward D. Miller. The parties live near Monroeville. The couple were married May 3, 1883 and separated January 25, 1892. Five children resulted from the union and the plaintiff asks that she be given the custody of them. The complaint alleges abandonment as the grounds on which to ask for a divorce.   • 24 Apr 1894 The divorce case of John Keller against Juniata Keller was heard before Judge O'Rourke of the circuit court yesterday. The defendant was granted the decree on her cross-complaint and $300 alimony. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 5 May 1894 Siddie Snyder has brought a suit for a divorce from her husband, Frank Snyder. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 8 May 1894 Yesterday afternoon at Van Wert, Charles B. Hossfort was granted a divorce from his wife, Katie Hossfort. Humane Officer L. C. Schlaudroff, of this city, was in Van Wert to testify in the case. It seems that the cause for action originated in Fort Wayne in a case in which Mr. Schlaudroff investigated. Mrs. Hossfort was altogether too giddy and got herself into any amount of trouble. She is at present living here and did not even offer to defend herself against the suit. There are no children.   • 15 Jun 1894 Elizabeth Schaich has filed a complaint in the superior court asking for a divorce from her husband, Christian Schaich. The complaint alleges that the couple were married in 1866 and have a large family of children. The plaintiff declares that the defendant is cruel, has struck her, called her vile names, and it is impossible to live longer with him. She asks for a decree of divorce, $1000 alimony and $50 annually for the support of the children until they shall have attained the age of 16 years. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 21 Jun 1894 Judge O'Rourke heard part of the evidence in the divorce case of Michael Kirby against Mary A. Kirby. The evidence was very filthy. Kirby has considerable property and the wife made charges of infidelity against him in order that she might receive alimony. Before the evidence was all in, last evening the parties came to some kind of agreement and the divorce will be granted this morning.   • 21 Jun 1894 Papers have been filed by Ellen Hill asking for a divorce from her husband, Thomas Hill. She also asks for $2000 alimony and an injunction against Philemon Dickinson, who is the custodian of some of Hill's property. The petition alleges inhuman and cruel treatment.   • 19 Jul 1894 Quick work was done in the superior court yesterday. Artellessia Sircle filed a complaint for a divorce from her husband, Emanuel Sircle, on the grounds of cruelty. The complaint was filed and the case was at once taken up by Judge Dawson and the divorce was granted. The custody of the child was held under the order of the court. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 25 Jul 1894 In the superior court, Margaret Wise has brought suit for divorce from John Wise. The defendant is one of the Wayne Township constables and the allegation is that he has been cruel and inhuman in treatment of his wife. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 25 Jul 1894 The circuit court evens up with the superior court by a divorce suit. The plaintiff is Augusta Frederick and the defendant is Henry Frederick. The complaint alleges that they were married in Germany in the year 1883 and lived together until sometime last year when he abandoned her. She says in her complaint that the defendant was guilty of cruel and inhuman conduct and frequently assaulted her. At one time he threw a boot at her, cutting a painful gash in her forehead and broke the furniture and scattered the dishes all over the floor. Her life, she says, was made wretched by cruelty and neglect and she desired the court to break her matrimonial fetters as soon as possible. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 1 Aug 1894 The following telegram from Youngstown, Ohio dated July 31, explains itself: Charles P. Smith, a well-known contractor, left here today for Fort Wayne, Ind., and his wife, who is now suing for divorce, asserts that another woman, who is also trying to secure a divorce from her husband, eloped with him. Mrs. Smith makes some sensational charges against her husband. At the last term of court, he applied for and was refused a divorce. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 1 Aug 1894 A divorce was granted William Krimmel from his wife, Marguerite Krimmel. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 1 Aug 1894 In the superior court yesterday, Henry Haberkorn brought suit against Caroline Haberkorn asking that the court grant a divorce. The complaint alleges that the couple were married on August 5, 1858, and have three children, all grown. The plaintiff is a machinist and for some time past has been unable to work and the defendant has been abusive toward him. Only yesterday it is alleged she struck him with a cane on the head, arms, legs, and back, causing fearful bruises and called him a "old crank." She has frequently applied similar endearing epithets and about four years ago struck him and "closed his eyes." He thinks he's entitled to a decree of separation. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 2 Aug 1894 Still another suit was filed in the circuit court yesterday, Clara McNearney against Thomas McNearney. The complaint alleges cruel and inhuman treatment. The plaintiff declares that the defendant frequently struck and choked her and when she went out on the street, followed her, charging that she went for immoral purposes.   • 8 Aug 1894 The suit of Ellen Hill against Thomas Hill and others for divorce has been dismissed at the defendant's costs. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 9 Aug 1894 Belle Rader was granted a divorce from Peter Rader and alimony in the sum of $3000. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 9 Aug 1894 Lina S. Light has brought suit in the superior court praying for a divorce from her husband, Edward Light and $300 alimony. The complaint proclaims a tale of woe. The couple were married in this city June 5, 1892. The plaintiff declares that the defendant possesses a violent and ungovernable temper and that soon after their marriage he struck and beat her, then caught the bed clothing between his teeth and tore it to shreds. A reconciliation was effected on his promise not to act so naughty again, but afterward there was another quarrel and the defendant carried his grievance to his brother, and the latter took sides with him and struck and choked the plaintiff but it caused no interference of the defendant on her behalf. There was another reconciliation and again a promise of reform by the defendant but again he forgot the promise, became angered, called the plaintiff foul and bad names, and only a few days ago became cruel and struck her, knocked her down, and then pulled a handful of hair from her head. In addition to these little diversions, the complaint charges drunkenness and failure to provide. The defendant has considerable personal property and an order is asked to restrain him from disposing of the same until this suit is settled by the court. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 9 Aug 1894 Sydney Search Snider was granted a divorce from Frank Snyder and restored to her maiden name, Sydney Search. (Fort Wayne News)
  • 9 Aug 1894 Mary Ballard sues for divorce from Leslie Ballard and asks $500 alimony. (Fort Wayne News)
  • 11 Aug 1894 Amos H. Louck asks for a legal separation from his wife. He alleges abandonment and adultery. Mrs. Loucks now lives at 55 E. Main Street. A sensational divorce suit was filed in the superior court yesterday, the plaintiff, Amos Loucks, asking for a legal separation from his wife, Laura J. Loucks. The complaint also asks for the custody of three children, George aged 18, Merrel aged 13, and Alma aged 7. The couple were married in 1872 and lived together until 1893. In 1892, so the plaintiff charges, Mrs. Loucks sought and kept the company of dissolute female characters and brought them to his home against his expressed command and wishes. In 1893 she abandoned him and went to Montpelier where she collected about her men and women of bad character. She now resides at No. 55 East Main Street and with Al Barr, keeps and runs a saloon where she associates with lewd and dissolute men and women. The plaintiff alleges that on one occasion the defendant encouraged Barr to assault him. Mrs. Loucks is also accused of adultery with persons whose names are unknown. The petition closes by asking for their custody of the children. Mr. Loucks is a carpenter by trade and at present lives at No. 12 Harrison Street. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 21 Aug 1894 A divorce has been granted to Lena S. Lipes from Edward Lipes. The action was brought in the superior court. The plaintiff was also given alimony on the sum of $500. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)

  • 31 Aug 1894 Mary K. Osenbaugh has brought suit in the circuit court asking that she may be given a divorce from her husband, John K. Osenbaugh.   • 7 Sep 1894 Frank Lordier, the postmaster at St. Vincent, Allen County, who has figured so frequently in the courts, has broken into court on his own account. This morning he began suit in the circuit court asking for a divorce from his wife, Christina Lordier. He alleges that his wife is cruel and inhuman and that during the past year her temper has been violent and ungovernable. She has accused him in the presence of friends and relatives of associating with lewd women. He alleges too that his wife has been so vicious to callers for mail at the post office he was obliged to give up the postmastership. He asks the court to grant him a divorce. (Fort Wayne News)

  • 12 Sep 1894 Judge O'Rourke, of the circuit court, yesterday heard the evidence in the divorce case of Byerly against Byerly. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 18 Sep 1894 Two divorces were granted yesterday, John R. Ossenbaugh from Mary E. Ossenbaugh and Augusta Fredericks from Henry Fredericks. (Fort Wayne Journal Gazette)
  • 19 Sep 1894 Abraham I. Sowers has been granted a divorce in the superior court from his wife, Sarah E. Sowers. He was also granted the custody of the two children. Sowers is a street car man and a few weeks ago went home earlier than usual and found another man occupying his place on the family cot. A scene of a sensational nature followed and bloodshed was narrowly averted. The climax was reached today when the divorce was granted by Judge Dawson. (Fort Wayne News)

Yesterday Limecooley was arrested for beating his wife, Cora, and was fined $16. Limecooley is expected to file divorce proceedings this morning and the wife will fight the case.
