Genealogy and Family History Workshop

The Family History and Genealogy Workshop is a part of the educational opportunities offered by the Allen County Genealogical Society, Inc. The workshop continues to grow and has moved to a larger room.

The Family History and Genealogical Workshop now meets on the third Wednesday of each month in the Discovery Center in The Genealogy Center on the second floor of the downtown Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne. The workshops are free and open to persons of all skill levels.

The Family History and Genealogy Workshop session begins at 1:00 p.m. each third Wednesday.

Topics for each workshop are determined by the attendees to meet their needs in genealogical research. Presentations cover the various methods of researching genealogical records on site and online. Finding primary documents such as birth, marriage, and death certificates. Learning to understand legal records including census, land records, tax records, wills, and probate records. Researching newspapers for information including obituaries. Also, how to determine a document's authenticity and how to record the source. Organizing research documents and photos including the use of genealogical software. Also, learning how to share your findings by creating charts, reports, and writing articles and books.
