Most of the research materials on this site are searchable via the search box at the top of the screen. If you get too many or too few search results, try some of the techniques below.

Find names with exact spellings

• Use quotes around names to narrow your search
• Consider common name abbreviations
• Try alternate orders of first and last names:

Find variant spellings of names

• Substitute an asterisk for multiple letters which may vary
  • fo*l*ng*r finds Foehlinger, Foelinger, Foellinger, & Follinger
  • sw*n*y finds Swainey, Sweaney, Sweeney, Sweeny, Swenney & Swinney
• Substitute a question mark for a single letter which may vary
  • h?ns?n finds Hansen, Hanson, Henson & Hinson
  • re?d finds Read, Redd, Reed & Reid

Find particular types of records

• While search results offer the option to narrow results to broad categories of records (church, military, vital records, etc.), you may look for more specific types of records by adding appropriate search terms:
  • "herman miller" divorces
  • "miller herman" marriages
  • "herman miller" marriages

Find addresses

• Use quotes:
  • "3801 holton"
  • "137 e creighton"
