1850 Agricultural Schedule, Allen County, Indiana
The 1860 Allen County, Indiana agriculture census was microfilmed in alphabetical order by township, not by page number. Within each township, the page numbers are not always in sequence. Surnames appear on uneven page numbers, 1, 3, 5, etc. The statistical information is on even page numbers, 2, 4, 6, etc. The page numbering system is confusing in that numbers in one township reappear in one or two other townships, therefore the index with surname and township should be of great value to the searcher.
There are several items the researcher should be aware of when using this index. Some Jefferson township names appear on page 51 of Madison Township. The Pleasant township enumeration contains 10 names on page 25 that are part of Wayne Township. Both are easily identified. Marion Township pages were filmed out of numerical order. Page 45 of St. Joseph Township was filmed twice. Page 27 of Wayne Township was filmed twice. Taking these idiosyncrasies into consideration, the searcher should have no problem locating their ancestor's information.
