Battalion Chief Eric J. Balliet Memorial Parkway Dedication took place this afternoon, with family, friends, firefighters, police officers and local officials gathering to honor the fallen hero.

Eric was a tremendous asset to our community and had an infectious energy that inspired those around him. We were blessed to have him serve with our department as a Sheriff Reserve Officer, and we are incredibly proud to have been in attendance today for this well-deserved dedication.

Thank you to the Balliet family for sharing this part of Eric with us.

After 32 years with the department, Captain Steve Stone has officially retired! We can't thank him enough for his dedication and service. Although the department will be a little less goofy and a little quieter without him, we wish him the absolute best with his new adventures!

National Police Woman's Day

Today, as we celebrate National Police Woman's Day, we'd like to take a minute and recognize the women of our department who have made it their mission to protect and serve our community:

Lt. M. Halsey

Cpl. I. Herriott

Officer A. Spahiev

Officer B. Leininger

Officer A. McHenry

Officer K. Lewis

Officer L. Squadrito

Officer M. Linnemeier

Reserve Officer S. McHenry

This day honors the women who have paved the way for future generations of women in law enforcement. Although the law enforcement field is historically a male-based profession, these women have more than proven their worth and capabilities.

E.O.W. February 12, 2017, Sgt. Joseph Cox, Jr.

On this day, 7 years ago, our community suffered a major loss. Sgt. Joe Cox was investigating an accident where a vehicle struck a horse-drawn buggy, ejecting one of the buggy's occupants. After assisting at the scene, Sgt. Cox drove the buggy's driver home. He made contact with the driver's parents, then returned to his squad car where he suffered a fatal heart attack.

Joseph Allen Cox, Jr. Unit 213
Rank: Sergeant
U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

Sgt. Cox was a man full of faith who loved his family and country. We will forever be grateful for his service to our community. He was survived by his wife and six children.
