Lusanna Richardson Miner Sherbondy

Only Known Photograph

Lusanna Richardson Miner was named after her great grandmother Lusanna Richardson. Both women's name was often confused with Susanna or Rosanna but the Richardsons have confirmed that the great grandmother was Lusanna and my grandfather, her grandson, stated unequivocally that it was Lusanna.

She was born on April 30, 1846 in Union Township, Whitley County, Indiana to her parents Otis W. Miner (11820-1868) and Harriet Bennett (1822-1862). She married Abraham. M. Sherbondy on April 23, 1868 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She and Abraham lived in Fort Wayne and had six children: William H., Alice Mary, Edward Marion, George Lawrence, Frank Pearl, and Clara Edith. Alice Mary died as an infant. In 1890 Lusanna was baptized a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Wayne. Abraham died when she was 38. Thereafter she made a living as custodian for Miner School on the corner of Miner and DeWald streets. She died at age 50 on May 24, 1896. She was interred in Lindenwood Cemetery.
