| Query: | Hello! I am looking for the parentage and any information on Edwin Kilpatrick of Fort Wayne. He is my 3rd great-grandfather through his illegitimate daughter Sylvia Edna Chaney. In 1884-1886, he was sued by Sylvia's mother, Mathilda Chaney for child support in Allen County, and was compelled by the court to provide support. The newspapers articles detailing this are how I found Sylvia's father. According to what I have been able to find, he married at least three times to Lucy Grimes, Rose Urquhart, and Carrie Burr, and had two children with Rose: William Kilpatrick and Charles Cyrus Kilpatrick.
Newspaper accounts list his name as either Edwin Kilpatrick, Ed. Kilpatrick, Edward Kilpatrick, Edwin Kirkpatrick, and E. Kirkpatrick.
The only documentation I have been able to find for who his parents might be is a marriage document that lists their names as James Kilpatrick and Lucy Rice.
