| Query: | I have been searching high and low for my third great grandfather, John Woodford, to no avail. Here is what I do know. John was born around 1816 in either England or Ohio. He married Sophia Johnson around 1839 in Ohio.
With them were two boys, George who was born on 11 Jan 1841 in Erie County (Ohio), and William who was born around 1843 in Indiana. This is when I presumed John moved to Indiana.
In relation to Allen County, I discovered John's wife married a second time to John Henry Ritchey on 8 Jan 1853 in said county. Also, George and William joined the union army, enlisting in Allen County, during the Civil War.
What happened to John. Did he die before 1853 in Allen County? Did the two get a divorce? I have looked at censuses to shed light about this family. I did find John Ritchey and Sophia listed in the 1860 census. As to 1850 and prior, no luck what so ever. |
