Subject:  James B. and Margaret McDonald of Fort Wayne
Surnames:  McDonald
Query:  James Bell (J. B.) McDonald. J. B. was possibly born at Uniontown, Fayette County, PA. [1921 death certificate of daughter, Gertrude McDonald Ramsey] Before settling in Fort Wayne, c. 1857, the family lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where daughter Belle was born. ["Mrs. Belle Holliday," Fort Wayne News, April 4, 1896] Fort Wayne city directories list Mr. McDonald as bricklayer. The 1870 census listed him as superintendent mason, Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad. He died in his 70s at his residence at No. 18 Monroe St., in June 1885. One death notice concluded: "His life has been very successful and Fort Wayne bears evidence of his enterprise." ["Death of James B. McDonald," Fort Wayne Sentinel June 26, 1885] The senior McDonald was survived by his wife and four children: R. T. McDonald, John McDonald, Mrs. J. N. Ramsey and Mrs. Dr. Holliday of Cleveland. ["Death of J B McDonald," Fort Wayne Daily Gazette, June 27, 1885] I seek a more detailed obituary from 1885 or other biographical material related to the McDonalds.
