He married Sarah Leafler on March 20, 1843, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was in the Civil War, 75th Infantry Co F. He is listed in the Fort Wayne census for 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 and is listed in the city directory of 1891. They had eight children in 21 years; Milton, Rachel (McGinnis), John Jr, Mary (Knowlton), Malinda, George W, David and Emrie A. He died on March 26, 1892, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at the age of 71, and was buried in Prairie Grove Cemetery,Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.
